I'm Home

It's been a crazy, busy few weeks here! I left on the 7th for Albuquerque to babysit my two grand-boys. I returned that Sat. night to attend a wedding on Sun. night and then it was back to Albuquerque  early Mon. morning for the remainder of the next week. I just got home this Monday evening.

Needless to say, I haven't done much art during this time. Yesterday, though, I went to my friend's house for a stitching-felt-ornaments day with a few friends. You might remember we stitched Valentine and Easter ornaments. This time we worked on snowmen - a little early but we'll be ready for that season!

These are the cuties I managed to finish. We might do another day to work on some others.

Embroidering on felt is so relaxing. These are made easier by die-cutting the felt so there is no fussy cutting involved!

Embroidering

The past few months I have been embroidering some holiday felt ornaments. It started when my two art friends and I had our monthly art date in early Feb. and we decided to do some Valentine hearts for little wire trees we all have. We were inspired by Vicki Chrisman (my online friend and fellow crafter) and her felt hearts. You can see some of hers here.

These were the ones I made. We die cut the felt layers from various dies and then used simple embroidery stitches and buttons to embellish them. I have a few more cut out but ran out of time before Valentine's Day. Next year...

Then we decided to continue on for Easter ornaments. We used dies for the egg shapes and scallop circles (sheep) but hand-drew and hand-cut the other shapes. I added a combination of embroidered flowers, vintage paper flowers and felt flowers and buttons to embellish these.

They all looked super cute on the tree for each holiday.

Mixed Media Mania - Altered Egg Carton

Join me next Tuesday (April 8, 10 am-1pm or 6pm-9pm) at the LBH for our spring Mixed Media Mania class.  Mixed Media doesn't always have to be dark, grungy and "steampunky" - this month we will do it up in shabby chic just in time for spring and Easter.

We will alter a little egg carton with paints, inks, glitter, papers, lace etc for a sweet little addition to your Easter home decor.  There's even a bit of hand-sewing - I promise it's easy enough for anyone to do!

Drop by the LBH or call (817-431-7930) to reserve your seat. Hope to see you then!

Day 3 of the 12 Days of Ornament Extravaganza

Today is my turn for posting an ornament for the 12 Days of Ornament Extravaganza at The Little Blue House.   I made this cute little snowman hat ornament.  I used an empty ribbon spool, covered it with black felt and added some beautiful scalloped velvet ribbon, a handmade doily and a tiny paper poinsettia (all available at the LBH of course!).  It could also be made from scratch using chipboard.

Check out the full tutorial on the LBH blog and be sure to comment.  One lucky person will win one of the two ornaments I made!  Are you feeling lucky?  While you're there, be sure to look at the past two posts for two more great ornament ideas and check in daily from now til Thanksgiving for the remaining ornaments.
