Back to reality

We're back from our daughter's wedding in Puerto Morelos, Mexico - at least my body is back, but the rest of me is still there on vacation! There were 32 of us - family and close friends - staying at a lovely all-inclusive resort. Unlimited food and drinks and lots of entertainment and places to relax. The only downside was the extreme wind - they said it was unusual even for there - which blew the entire time we were there. The forecast was for rain on Saturday, the day of the wedding, but we lucked out and had gorgeous blue skies.

This is Kelly and I the first day - my hair never did keep any body or curl so I just gave up. The resort was so huge it was easy to get lost.

The wedding was on Saturday, May 1st. I must say that a destination wedding is definitely a great way to go. After an hour meeting and tour of the facilities on our first day, the resort wedding planner took care of all the details and we did very little else except worry about the weather!

This is the organdy flower I made for Kelly's hair. It's just several layers of roughly-cut organdy circles with pearls and crystals in the center. After cutting the circles, I passed the edges through the flame of a lighted candle - they melted and curled very nicely and, when layered, look very lifelike.

Here's the bride just before dressing for the big event. Yours truly had the honor (?) of hand-carrying the gown to Mexico.

My other three daughters were bridesmaids and are lacing her up (the back of her gown was laced like a corset - very pretty but a pain to lace!)

Out of touch for awhile

Yay! I'm leaving in the morning for this place in Puerto Morelos, Mexico.

I'm cleaning

I've been so busy with the store and designing projects that both my house and art room are way too messy! My mom arrives tomorrow to go to Mexico with us on Wed. for the wedding, so guess what I've been doing today! Yikes, how did it get so out of control? Anyway, here's a peek at just the tip of the "iceberg" that is my upheaval of a room. It looks like the aftermath of a tornado! Have lots to do...my mother just won't understand...

On another note, I finally had time to take a peek at the little bird family nesting on my front door. There had been five eggs, but we can only make out four babies. Possibly the fifth is underneath? Sure hope he didn't smother! They were wide awake when I snapped this. So cute, but what's not cute is the mess around them. It's starting to get nasty down my front door too. You can bet this entire arrangement will go in the trash as soon as they learn to fly!

What have I been doing this week?

I know it's been almost a week since I posted - I've been busier than ever this week getting new projects finished, preparing for Open House at the store today and yesterday, and teaching. Here are some sneak peeks of a few of my new class projects. (You will note I am not sharing photos of my art room - it looks like a tornado blew through!)

It's hard to believe, but one week from today my daughter will be getting married on a beach near Playa del Carmen, Mexico! Now that this week is over, I need to focus on wedding stuff, packing, etc... !

Birthday Book

This is a perpetual birthday/anniversary book I made for a class last month. Each page is a different month with spaces to write the names of whoever's birthday or anniversary is on that date. This is mostly patterned paper (can't remember the company but love those cute little birds and birdcages) and bound with the Bind-it-All. I love the flower tabs with buttons and faux stitching. A quick little project to keep you organized.

Preview - Here Comes the Bride

The wedding is almost here - May 1 on the beach in Mexico! My daughter, Kelly, who lives in Chicago but bought her dress here in Dallas, came into town twice in the last two weeks for her fittings. Here's a preview - isn't it beautiful?! I especially like the back detailing (see last photo). I am in charge of picking the dress up this week and taking it to Mexico. Sure hope the plane has one of those little closets up front (does anyone else remember when everyone flew with hanging bags and the flight attendants hung them in the closet?).

Babies!

Five to be exact. Momma bird did find her way back from the backyard to her nest on the front door after her adventure inside. I checked the nest yesterday and found the newly hatched babies - the nest so full of "fluff" that you can't distinguish one from the other. I dare not disturb them and disrupt nature's course. But I'm wondering how long it takes them to grow enough to learn to fly and leave home. My doggie is very confused as to why we are not using the front door!
