DLP unPlanner 2016 - March Week 3

March 19 - Week 3
Art Challenge: Use arrow(s) as focal point
List Ten: Ten Dream Destinations

This is my spread for the third week. I used a white printout and scraped with turquoise and yellow Dylusions paints. The banners for the dates are punched from an ad I received in the mail. I used collage paper for the spine with hand-painted reinforcers. In addition, there are rub ons, stickers, stamps and washi tape.

To save space (my binder is about full!) I added the List Ten on the back of the Dare 2B list from the week before. I printed it on white and used Distress Inks on a background stamp, misting it with water before stamping to achieve a watercolor effect. The bullet points are the centers of hand-painted reinforcer stickers.

For the PAC I used a journal card from Jamie Doughtery's Creating with Faith since it seemed appropriate for Easter week coming up.  I didn't do much to the card - outlined the cross, added Illustrated Faith black word stickers, stamped the arrow and splattered with diluted white paint.

Join me for some Mixed Media Fun!

I will be teaching this Mixed Media Art Canvas Workshop
at The Little Blue House on Wednesday, April 6.
 There will be two sessions to choose from - 10:00am - 1:00pm or 6:00 - 9:00pm.

For those new to mixed media, or even seasoned mixed media artists, this will be a great introduction into some of the techniques and mediums used to create texture and interest on your project.  You will make choices during the creative process to create an art canvas unique to you!

I hope to see you in class! We'll have a fun and artsy time!

DLP unPlanner 2016 - March Week 2

With all the babysitting and travel we've been doing lately, I seem to get behind in posting my weekly planner spreads on the blog, but I am keeping current with it.

March - Week 2
Art Challenge - Add leaves, real or drawn
Dare 2B card with list/word

For this week I continued using the horizontal format and printed on kraft card stock. I added artist paper for the "spine" and the scallops and stamped green circles and white flowers here and there. The tiny green felt bow clip is from the new Illustrated Faith line with Bella Blvd.

For the PAC card I drew a maple leaf with an orange oil pastel crayon (which is not water-soluble) and then filled the leaf with green and yellow watercolors. The background is also watercolor. Very simple but I did meet the art challenge.

I added this PAC with the first week's card to a page protector that I cut in half. I used washi tape on the spine and sewed hand-dyed ribbon to the top of the pockets. (Sorry for the glare on the plastic.)

Last month I didn't do a Dare 2B card so this month I decided to add one. My word is Grateful and  I listed and journaled about five things I am most thankful for.  The divider is a row of tiny square stickers which I doodled around. The five headings are strips of artist paper which are glued over the printed headers.

Happy 4th Birthday Carl!

We spent this past weekend in Austin celebrating Carl's fourth birthday. Can't believe it's been that long since this little guy came into our lives and stole our hearts!

He is into Star Wars big time, so that was the theme for his party. His mom made a fabulous R2D2 cake, Storm Trooper marshmallows on a stick, grapes-on-skewers Light Sabers and Ty Fighters made with two thin hexagonal Oreos with a mini marshmallow between. Most of the present stuck to the theme too - who knew there were so many Star Wars toys and games! He had a blast!

The kids had a ball with the Darth Vader piƱata and the pool noodle light sabers.

His actual birthday is this Friday, the 25th. I made him this card which I'm sure he will love.

"Hello Beautiful" Layout Class

"Hello Beautiful"

Do you scrapbook? Here's my latest layout class at The Little Blue House. It's done with a beautiful new paper collection from Photoplay by Julie Nutting. I just love these papers!

You can sign up to take this as a class at any "Buffet Class" in the store or purchase it as a kit. Call the LBH at 817-431-7930 for more information or visit our website (see link above).

DLP unPlanner 2016 - March Week 1 cont'd

This is the weekly view for the first week of March. This month I'm trying the horizontal calendar pages for a change.  I am more familiar with the vertical format, but this gives a little more space to embellish so we will see how it goes!

For the days/numbers of the week I used the stamps that were included in the DLP kit. They were designed by Rae Missigman and I love them. I used some really old decorative paper strips to divide the days.  The "March" and "Good Vibes Only" were cut from the Bo Bunny March paper that I mentioned in yesterday's post. I'm getting a lot of mileage out of that paper! I love that tiny felt bow clip at the top - it's from the newly released She Blooms collection from Bella Blvd and Illustrated Faith.

The PAC art challenge for week 1 was "Go Splatter Crazy."  I used Colorbursts with a Tim Holtz stencil for the background and added splatters with turquoise alcohol ink and green, turquoise and bright pink watercolors. I sewed around the card with pink thread and added a die-cut paper piece from the She Blooms collection. At the moment the card is clipped to the page with the bow clip but I may add a page protector with several of this month's PACs once they are completed.

Looking forward to seeing what the next prompts are for week 2!

DLP unPlanner 2016 - March Week 1

Wow, the beginning of March ! It seems like it was just Christmas!

March Theme: Seeking Treasure - Finding Value in the Small Moments

Since we're starting a new month, there was a divider page to create. I used the original divider from the Bo Bunny calendar from the kit and added a portion of a patterned kraft file folder (Target $ Spot). I colored the diamonds and the printed circle design with gelato and a water brush.  I made the pocket from a journal card, sewing it to the kraft folder before glueing to the divider. The text was also from the same journal card paper. (This is the Bo Bunny paper collection "Calendar Girl" with 12" x 12" papers for each month. They are fun to cut up for scrapbook layouts, journals, cards, etc.)

As I've done for past months, I added a tag inside the pocket with the theme for the month. This tag was colored with Distress Inks and then splattered with water. The water was blotted off after a few minutes, leaving the water marks. Then I stamped the flourishes and the sentiment which is a very old stamp I had and fit the theme perfectly!

Because my binder is getting full already, I used the calendar already printed rather than adding another.  I colored in the designs on the page with gelato like the front. The paper I mentioned above had a small blank calendar with green squares so I cut them in half diagonally for adding the numbers for the days.

The green stripe washi tape shows the days I'll be babysitting Mitchell this month - a lot! No wonder I can't keep up with everything!

DLP unPlanner 2016 - Feb. Week 4

My fourth week's calendar page. This time I printed on white card stock. I love adding all the stamping, stickers, washi and more. The girl holding the heart is from a card front I've saved for years. Glad to finally find a home for it!

This is the back of the calendar. I glued scraps of papers (one was a stripe tissue paper I used to wrap my grandson's Valentine gift in and I just had a tiny bit leftover), gessoed over, then stenciled, stamped and added washi tapes.  The washi on the left side is a hinge to hold the protector with the PAC for the week.

Here's my PAC - the art challenge was to use an image from a magazine or a tiny photo. The tulips are from a Joann's ad. I watercolored the background to blend in the image, stamped the words and then machine-sewed the edge.

Here you can see the PAC inside the clear page protector pocket, hinged with the black and white washi tape. I machine-stitched the scallops before cutting the protector to size.

For the fourth week of each month we are supposed to do a monthly pocket page with favorites from the month. I saved bits and pieces of ephemera all month and then made custom pockets for the various items with my Fuse tool.  The tag, upper left, shows photos of my grandsons. The little one spent the weekend with us in early Feb. and then last weekend I went to Austin to take care of both of them.  I also saved logos from the Scrapbook Expo I attended and stickers from some of my purchases this month. The heart is cut out from my Valentine card from my mom and I received several happy mail packages so I made a flip-up card for the upper pocket.

And the back - more happy mail, portions of SW boarding passes, a wrapper from Dove chocolates from my daughter, and a photo of the awesome cookies my friends and I made together one day.

So that was my week/month in a nutshell! I'm looking forward to getting started on March.
