Documented Life unPlanner - April Week 2

I printed my second week of April on the back of the first week to save room in the binder. I scraped pink, blue and yellow paints across the page to add some color. The dates are stamped on banners I punched from security envelopes - love the tiny patterns inside these junk mail envelopes. Then I just started added stamping, doodles and stickers for the things going on this week. I finished this up early as I will be flying to Austin tonight to babysit for a few days.

I am not doing the "Dare2B" card this week. For the PAC, the challenge was to draw a face. Eek! Oh no! I thought about stamping a face but then figured that wouldn't be meeting the challenge and a challenge isn't a challenge if it's easy, right?! 

I loved what Rae did for her PAC t his week. (See below.) She started with a water-soluble oil pastel background and some white paint where the face would be. Then she glued on a used tea bag before starting to draw and paint the face.

So I started in doing as she did. I didn't have a tea bag so I used a piece of sewing pattern tissue - same color and a good start for the flesh of the face. I loosely drew a face with pencil and then started adding acrylic paints and then watercolors.  I tried hard not to overwork it - it's not perfect but neither am I! And I do like it far better than my attempts last year! Still need a lot of practice...

I finished it off by stitching with variegated thread. The DLP gals have been doing that all year and I found some very old variegated rayon thread in my sewing stash that I am happy to use up! The colorful thread just adds a nice touch.

With all the babysitting and travel we've been doing lately, I seem to get behind in posting my weekly planner spreads on the blog, but I am keeping current with it.

Art Challenge - Add leaves, real or drawn

Dare 2B card with list/word

For this week I continued using the horizontal format and printed on kraft card stock. I added artist paper for the "spine" and the scallops and stamped green circles and white flowers here and there. The tiny green felt bow clip is from the new Illustrated Faith line with Bella Blvd.

For the PAC card I drew a maple leaf with an orange oil pastel crayon (which is not water-soluble) and then filled the leaf with green and yellow watercolors. The background is also watercolor. Very simple but I did meet the art challenge.

I added this PAC with the first week's card to a page protector that I cut in half. I used washi tape on the spine and sewed hand-dyed ribbon to the top of the pockets. (Sorry for the glare on the plastic.)

Last month I didn't do a Dare 2B card so this month I decided to add one. My word is Grateful and  I listed and journaled about five things I am most thankful for.  The divider is a row of tiny square stickers which I doodled around. The five headings are strips of artist paper which are glued over the printed headers.

October Theme - Translucent Papers

Art Challenge: Tea Bags, Dryer Sheets, Fibrous Papers

Journal Prompt: Just Create

So this was for last week and we were still doing the October theme even though it was the end of the month (the challenges are posted on the Saturday before the week). One more week of translucent papers - this time tea bags, dryer sheets and fibrous papers.

I started with collaging tea bags and fibrous papers on my background. I'm glad I took these photos as none of this can be seen in the final spread except possibly a tiny bit of texture here and there!

Then I added a thin coat of white gesso to unify all the pieces.

From there I just started adding layer upon layer of paints scraped on, painted with my fingers, sponged through stencils and "stamped" with a bottle cap (circles) and edge of a gift card (lines). (Sorry, no photos as I got into the zone!)

For the flower stems I painted horizontal black stripes on a sheet of old book paper and cut into vertical strips. The flower centers are circles cut out of dryer sheets that I Mod Podged together, dried and then painted. I machine-stitched the outer edges. Once they were glued down I painted the petals with black paint and added white with a paint pen. For the leaves I glued painted dryer sheets to book pages and handout leaves. They are also machine-stitched down the centers.

I used Dyan Reaveley's alpha stamp set for the title and outlined with a white Signo pen.

I had fun creating this spread, especially since there was no specific prompt other than to "just create." I'm looking forward to the November theme!
