Misc weekly challenges and projects

Last week's online challenge was to use paint. I created a double-page spread in my art journal.

I used watercolor paints for the background. Then I added texture paster through an alpha stencil (hard to see in photo) and black acrylic paint through a few other stencils. I finished with a few pieces of washi tape, stamped words and a butterfly girl as the focal point.

I saw this technique below for using up scrap strips of papers on YouTube. I glued various paper strips to a larger paper (about 4" x 6") leaving space between each. Then I sewed the edges in black thread for contrast. The first one doesn't have a focal point yet; I added a fussy cut bird and several labels on the second one. These will make great tags or journal cards.

The last technique uses large paint chips as the base. These all came from Lowes but you can find paint chips in different sizes everywhere. I layered several different papers, washi tape, labels and focal points for a pleasing composition and added ribbon to the top of the tags. I haven't yet decided whether to leave the backs as is to show the paint chip labels or to cover with plain paper.

I enjoy using up scraps and items from my stash!
