DLP unPlanner 2016 - Feb. Week 3

This is my week's calendar for the third week of Feb. As you can see, I'm still using the fun red and pink color scheme!  Most of the background was colored in with watercolors - I tried for different shades of pinks/reds but got mostly pink! I added some patterned paper for a couple of the days. Lots of stickers and stamps...

This is the back - I covered it with a "throw-away" clean-up stencil paper and then added the List Ten directly to the page as I am quickly running out of room in this binder.  I will be finding different ways to add the items without making too many separate pages! The list for this month is "things I should never have done" and I'll be adding more as I think of them.

Here's my PAC for the week - the art challenge was "add a gratitude." I am very thankful for my wonderful family, and especially my little grand boys. 

 The background is simply an under paper from lots of painting and stenciling which I glued to the card. I typed the "grateful for" on the computer and hand-wrote "family," then added some fibers.  I think yarns and fibers are coming back in style and am so glad, as I have a bunch to use up!  

Instead of adding the card to a page protector like I've done the past few weeks, I decided to enclose it in a perfectly-sized glassine envelope which I punched to add to the binder ring. Below you can see how it sits above the week's page in my planner.

One more week in Feb. - I can't believe how quickly this year is flying by.

Art Journaling Workshop

I recently signed up for Christy Tomlinson's online art journaling workshop, "She Has 3 Hearts", and have worked my way through all the videos.  It has been very inspiring and motivating.  Since I've been off for a few days and have been trying to keep cool (110 today!), I've been playing in my art journal.

This first page is done with acrylic paints (regular craft, heavy-bodied, and fluid) on a gessoed background, along with a bit of stamping.  It's similar to one she demoed on a video but I need to work a bit on my paint technique. I used an old credit card to swipe the paint across the background, but I think I used too much paint. I prefer a more random look.  And that's what art journaling is all about - learning and playing and enjoying the process rather than focusing on the finished outcome.

For the second page I started with my Ranger paint dabbers.  I own six, but as luck would have it, three were totally dry and the other three barely came out. So the background was very light and is not even visible now.  Then I used a mist over a stencil (turquoise) and added other mists with a brush (orange and green).  The music and circles are stamped with ink and paint.  Christy had one video showing how to make these adorable flowers with yarn, floss and Mod Podge directly on the page, so that's what I did!

I have several more pages started and at various stages of completion, awaiting further inspiration!  This is such a fun, relaxing way to spend a hot summer day.

Fiber Storage

Last week The Little Blue House focused on ribbon storage.  Since I had already organized all my ribbons, I decided to focus on my fibers which were out of hand.  Remember this mess?

This is what it looks like now.  I used the same box which is actually a paper mache trunk I received in a swap years ago.  It's slightly larger than the photo boxes I store my ribbon in.  I cut chipboard pieces 4" x 7" and wrapped the fibers around, staying in color families.  For the fibers I had a lot of, I wound several yards on the card and then placed the extras in a ziploc baggie.  This can be put away until I need more!  It's so satisfying to look into the box and see such order - and it's pretty too!

Several years ago I had bought this little ring bound "book" with small plastic baggies for fiber and thread storage.  (I can't remember what it was called or who made it.)  You can see that I've really outgrown it! In fact, I had to replace the rings with these much larger ones.  I think now that the "book"covers are superfluous and I'll just remove them.  Since these were all organized, I didn't redo them but they can hang near my fiber box so all will be together.  It's a great system, especially if you only have a small amount of fibers.
